This month marks the 1 year anniversary of a major accomplishment for one of our CFS members. Jason Diestel traveled to Encinitas, Ca to participate in Kokoro Camp, a program designed and run by ex-Navy SEAL Commander Mark Divine, who is also the founder of SEALFIT & the Unbeatable Mind program. Jason relates the experience in his own words:
“Kokoro, is a Japanese word that has no English equivalent. Sealfit explains it as the merging of heart and mind. Commander Mark Divine has created a 50 hour long crucible experience for Seal candidates and civilians who are looking to push themselves physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and intuitionally beyond all limits.
We quickly found out that the only way to survive was to work together as a team, rather than as individuals. Cultivation of mental toughness is the goal of Kokoro Camp, the coaches relentlessly bring a full spectrum of physical and psychological challenges. Their goal is to break you down and build you back up, stronger than before…over 50 grueling hours, spanning 3 days, of non-stop physical and mental angst.
It has been completed by Crossfitters such as Greg Amundson and Ben Greenfield; CrossFit Games’ Athletes Kristen Clever, Lindsey Valenzuela, and NFL’s Derek Price who said “Kokoro is like doing 3 Ironman Triathlons back to back to back… in a row”. But you don’t have to be a professional athlete to test yourself.
You are taught that with a powerful reason, (your ‘why’ ) you’re capable of 20 times more than what you perceive possible. It takes 100% commitment!! This isn’t something you “try”….bring a non-quitting warrior spirit… ready for anything….they’ll have to kill me to get me to stop…and DO IT.
If you are looking for a challenge, I highly recommend that you give the training a try, and if you have the will, make Kokoro a goal for yourself. I would be happy to help with advice, training and resources.
